Pendle Hill walk from Barley
The classic circular of Pendle Hill. If you are only in the Pendle area for a short visit, then if you have the time and want to 'conquer' Pendle, then this circular is the walk to do. A gentle start to the walk past the Ogden reservoirs then leads into a grassy stroll before crossing bracken covered moorland. The climbing then starts in earnest, with ever expanding views afforded as more height gained. From the summit even Blackpool tower and the Lakeland fells can all be seen on a clear day. The walk then proceeds down the much walked steps back towards Barley. Whilst Pendle Hill is synonymous with the Pendle Witches (the 400th anniversary of their hanging was in 2012), it is enjoyed by many thousands of people each year.
Pendle Hill walk from Downham
A circular walk, which initially sets off past Longlands Wood and the historic Worsaw End before passing up Burst Clough onto Worston Moor. The walk then heads over the top of Pendle Hill and on to the trig point at its summit, before descending down Downham Moor and back in to Downham. As soon as height is gained there are wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding Ribble Valley and beyond. From the top of Pendle, on a clear day the Lakeland fells and the Yorkshire Three peaks are all visible. Whilst Pendle Hill is synonymous with the Pendle Witches (the 400th anniversary of their hanging was in 2012), it is enjoyed by many thousands of people each year.
Three Villages Walk - Barley, Roughlee and Newchurch in Pendle
A circular taking in three of Pendle's picturesque villages. A riverside walk takes you from Barley to Roughlee, where after passing Roughlee Old Hall and crossing the stepping stones, there is a short climb to reveal a wonderful panorama of Pendle Hill. The walk then follows the ridge along Noggarth before briefly descending and then ascending to reach Newchurch in Pendle. The walk then drops down across a few fields to Heys Lane, which is followed back in to Barley.
